Our Story

Why Nebraska
Boys Volleyball Exists

It started with a kid at an open gym in Iowa. It became a question we couldn't stop asking.

One Kid. One Question.

A couple years ago, a trip to a volleyball clinic in Iowa turned into the conversation that started this work. Sitting with other parents, we heard about communities where boys volleyball was already growing — not because everything was perfectly organized, but because people kept opening doors for kids to walk through.

One Minnesota dad said something simple that stuck: "Sometimes it only takes one parent."

Then he pointed to a boy on the court. The boy had not really found his place yet. Another kid had been inviting boys to open gym on Friday nights, trying to grow the game and build a community around it. This boy planned to stop by for a few minutes and then go to a party. He stayed the whole night. Then came back the next Friday. Then Sunday. Eventually, he was showing up every chance he got.

Volleyball gave him more than a sport. It gave him a place to be, people who expected to see him again, and a community he could be part of.

That story followed us home to Nebraska. It became the question behind Nebraska Boys Volleyball: how many boys here are in the same spot, just waiting for someone to open a door?

Nebraska Boys Volleyball was built by people who believe that door should exist in more towns, for more families, and for any boy willing to show up and try. None of us had every answer at the beginning. We just knew the opportunity mattered, and we knew it would take a community to build it.

A Nonprofit Built to Remove Barriers

Nebraska Boys Volleyball is the trade name of Nebraska Volleyball Development Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit incorporated in Nebraska. Our mission is simple: get more boys into volleyball, regardless of where they live or what their family can afford.

We are not a club. We don't compete with club programs. Nebraska Boys Volleyball is an additive recreational development program. We exist for the kids who haven't found their sport yet — or who never got the invitation.

We are building more than clinics. We are building entry points into a volleyball community for boys who may not know the sport is for them yet.
